HL 8

Changes to how the Year 6 blog for home learning will work

Hi everyone.

I hope you have had a lovely half term.

From this week, the home learning on the blog will be changing slightly. For the first few days, the children in school will be starting guided reading from the text Wonder and completing lots of PSHE work. From Wednesday, they will then begin learning from the Oak National Academy.

Home learning on the blog will remain as Number Monday and Guided Reading Tuesday for this week. Then, from Wednesday, will also move over to the Oak National Academy. You will know which sessions to complete as I will still post the relevant information for you.

Guided Reading for home learners will have two options. If you have your own copy of Wonder by R J Palacio at home, then you may wish to follow the guided reading lessons I am writing and posting for this novel. However, if you do not (and frankly if you are enjoying the mystery of The Sealed-Up House and want to find out what happens!), then I will be continuing to write and post questions on the blog for this text too. The choice is entirely yours! 🙂

Scroll on down to find Monday’s work and please do keep blogging and messaging me on the Padlet.

Thanks!

Miss Lear

Tuesday – Guided Reading and PSHE

Guided Reading

For the remainder of this term, you will have a choice as to which Guided Reading lessons you would like to follow.

Option 1 – If you have a copy of Wonder by R J Palacio at home, you might like to follow the same guided reading sessions that we will be looking at in school using your own personal copy of the book. I have written these questions to be looked at for up to half an hour each day in class so do not feel that you need to work your way through all of it in one day.

Option 2 – The continuation of Guided Reading from last terms text: The Sealed-Up House.

You will need to scroll through to find this week’s questions for your option.

The Sealed-Up House

You will first need to read Chapter 3 and 4 before answering the questions below. You can access the text here: The Sealed-Up House

PSHE

For PSHE, we will be finding out a little more about Captain Tom Moore and then considering how it is that one person can make a difference.

You will need to research Captain Tom Moore first before working through the slides below. To watch the interview, access the video here: Captain Tom Moore Interview

Finally, rather than a discussion, please create a poster either about Captain Tom and the difference that he has made or about another individual that has made a difference (to your family, in the UK or to the World) in some way.
