Week 5

Thursday Subject Task: PSHE

PSHE HL task

Wednesday – Maths and English

Maths

Warm Up Spend the first 5 minutes of today’s Maths work practising your time tables on Times Table Rockstars. I wonder who will have achieved the most correct answers this week? Good luck!

Main Task Please follow the link to a PPT on problem solving (Summer Term, Week 2, Lesson Four, Problem Solving). You will want to have your speakers on to hear the explanations. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/

Though you may be tempted to look at the Week 3 lessons, we will be coming back to fractions next week in our number question. For now, I would like us to stick with problem solving. Don’t forget, you may find that using a bar model helps you with some of these.

Have a go at these questions ….

Problem Solving Questions (PART TWO)

English

Warm Up Head on over to Purple Mash and complete today’s Spelling Quiz Game.

Main Task We will be finishing our persuasive letters from Charles Darwin to his father today. You will need to go back to last week’s English work. It would be a good idea to remind yourself of your plan and to read what you have written so far before you begin your writing.

I have included the resources you will need from before and have updated the model letter so that it includes the rest of the letter for you to see.

Don’t forget to either email or photograph and post to the Padlet your finished and edited persuasive letters. I can’t wait to see what you have come up with.

Tuesday – Guided Reading and Maths

Don’t forget your daily spelling practice on Purple Mash! 🙂

Guided Reading

For today’s Guided Reading, you will need to access the online resource that was sent out to you for MyON. Access it here: https://readon.myon.co.uk/

In the search bar, type in “Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution”. You will need the graphic novel written by Heather Adamson. We will focus on Chapter Three. Read Chapter Three, then complete the vocabulary task (you can use a dictionary to help you) and answer the comprehension questions in your exercise book.

Problem Solving Questions Part One

Monday – Number Task

Number Resource

This ‘Number’ knowledge organiser might be useful for your Monday ‘Number’ tasks: Number Knowledge Organiser

Warm Up

Either spend 5 minutes on your current 99 Club or log on to Times Tables Rockstars and spend 5 minutes practising your times tables. They will prove useful today!

Main Task

Today’s number task is all about multiplication. We will be reviewing our understanding of short and long multiplication.

You will need to follow the links to our fluency task and reasoning task. After that, I have left you a little puzzle of another method of multiplication to try to see how it works.

These videos might be a helpful reminder for you …

Khan Academy – Multiplying by one digit

Khan Academy – Multiplying by two digits

Please remember that some people might ‘carry’ and place these ‘carried’ digits at the bottom of the calculation, rather than along the top like in these videos.

Fluency Task – Multiplication Fluency Questions

Reasoning Task – Multiplication Reasoning Questions

An extra puzzle …

Below, you will find two pictures.

Image One

Extra Puzzle Example

The first is an example of a slightly different multiplication method to those that you will be used to. There are two half solved multiplication questions. Can you figure out what is happening in this image and how the method works? (Post your solutions/ideas on the Padlet for me to see)

Image Two

Extra Puzzle Questions

The second is a blank version of the same multiplication method for you to have a go at if you think you can understand how this method works. Again, there are two questions to solve. If you think you have solved them, take a photograph and post them on the Padlet.

Good luck!
